CLEANING WITH VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA

CLEANING WITH VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA

DEEP CLEAN the Coffeemaker, Shower Heads, Cuttings Boards and more.

Life is starting to feel like a new “normal” in Jacksonville, FL,home of Mint Cleaning, and many of the safety elements, such as the supermarket checkout dividers and lower customer capacity, will remain.  Measures we can all agree are actually good overall.

There is a new hope in the air with the reopening of City of Jacksonville parks this past weekend.  We took advantage responsibly and safely, and took our bikes to the Baldwin Bike Trail.  EVERYONE was so happy and saying hi to each other from afar!

This week I’ve taken up REALLY cleaning the things around the house that you always want to give a deep clean but never seem to find the time: Coffeemakers, shower heads, cutting boards, etc.  A few common products readily available are all you need, White Vinegar and Baking Soda.  For enhanced power, purchase the “Cleaning Vinegar” variety:

Descale your coffee maker: Remove the mineral buildup inside your coffeemaker by filling the reservoir with a mix of half vinegar, half water.  Let it brew half way and stop it.  Let is stand before 30 min before completing the cycle.  Rinse it out by cycling through a second brew of just water.

Restore your shower head (and its power!):  Fill a zip lock bag with a mix of half vinegar, half water.  Immerse your shower head into the bag and secure it with a tight tie or even some painters tape.  Let this it soak for up to 1 hour.  Finally remove the bag and shine up with a microfiber rag.

Open up a slow drain:  When your drain is starting the drain slowly, pour half cup of baking soda, followed by half cup vinegar.  Cover drain immediately with a wet cloth and leave the mix do its magic.  It will foam up but the rag will capture it.  Finally, rinse drain with hot water after 5 minutes.

Revive cloudy glasses: Remove built-up film from hard-water minerals by soaking stemware in white vinegar for five minutes. Then rinse by hand and dry with a microfiber cloth.

Renew your cutting boards:  Sprinkle board with baking soda, scrub and rinse. Follow, by washing with Dawn or other preferred dishwashing soap as usual.

Mattress Deodorizer:  Vacuum mattress first. Sprinkle baking soda over the surface and let it sit 30 minutes. Vacuum thoroughly.

Continue staying safe and healthy.
